In the News: Q1 2018 – Highest Medical Device Recall Quarter Since 2005

According to Stericycle Recall Index, medical device recalls increased to 126% to 343 devices, doubling last quarter and the largest quarter since 2005. The number of units recalled reached 208.4 million, which is higher than 2017 combined.

The average recall size was 607,512 compared to Q4 2017 of 245,862.

The leading cause of recalls were software issues (78, 22.7%). Followed by Mislabeling issue (73, 21.3% ), Quality Issues (46, 13.4%), and Outside of Specification (33, 9.6%).
